Former 'DWTS' Winner Julianne Hough & Pro Hockey Player Brooks Laich Engaged
The "Dancing with the Stars" season hasn't started yet, but Julianne Hough and her beau Brooks Laich are already dancing for joy as the couple shared news of their engagement on Tuesday.
The blonde beauty announced she is off the market on her Instagram account @juleshough with a photo of her locked in an embrace with Laich. The caption read: "We are overwhelmed with joy and excitement to share with you our recent engagement!" Laich also posted the same photo and caption on his Instagram account @brookslaich.
The two-time winner of DWTS and the Washington Capitals center were introduced to each other by mutual friend Teddy Sears in December 2013, according to Us Magazine. They were first spotted a few months later in February 2014, on a date in Disneyland.
'Madly in love'
Hough has said that the relationship was different from her previous ones, including her high-profile romance with Ryan Seacrest.
In an interview with Redbook, the 27-year-old dancer talked about her past boyfriends saying, "I had one foot out because I didn't want to get hurt. But now I'm not holding anything back, because I'd rather get my heart broken than never know what it is to be completely, madly in love. If I had been this open in my last relationship, who knows?"
In contrast, the star added that she and Laich have been "open and honest from day one."
Despite being busy with their respective careers, Hough and Laich have been sharing their passions with each other. In a report from People Magazine, the couple laced up their ice skates last New Year for a spin around the ice. A source told the online magazine that the dancer looked at ease in her skates as she hit the ice and posed for pictures with Laich.
The NFL player is also interested in Hough's talent. Hough told Women's Health in June that Laich tends to enjoy dancing - or at least learning to - on their date nights.
"He wants to dance so bad," Hough said. "He literally wants me to teach him every single day. You would think it would be so easy, but I'm like, this is the last thing I want to do right now!"
No reports yet of the wedding date and venue, but the first dance is sure to be spectacular.
Hough will return as a judge on the next season of "Dancing with the Stars" that will premiere on September 16.
