The highly anticipated premiere of the spinoff series "Fear the Walking Dead" is just over the horizon. The first episode is simply titled "Pilot" and will air on AMC this Sunday, Aug. 23 at 9 p.m. EDT, according to TV Guide.

Although most fans have already been receiving most of the news about the upcoming series, the six-episode season will no doubt have a few surprises in store for you.

According to Spoilers Guide, the episode is going to start off slow, but it will go full throttle once the action starts.

The pilot episode will first focus on the dysfunctional family dynamic. They are not just an aggregate of sorts, coming from broken homes. They have mixed cultures and there will be a fractured family dynamic at play before the Walkers rise.

The stars of the show, which features Madison Clark (Kim Dickens) and her extended family, are brought together by the violence that starts erupting. Her son, Nick Clark (Frank Dillane), had been estranged, sucked into the underworld and caught up in the drug and criminal scene. Her daughter Alicia Clark (Alycia Debnam-Carey) had been so enamored with getting out and starting her life with her boyfriend that it had caused a strain in their relationship.

Madison's fiancé Travis (Cliff Curtis) also has a son from a previous marriage and they eventually find a way to bring their families together once the apocalypse starts reigning down on them.

Although the initial reports say it's a virus, they will not be naïve to the idea of what the Walkers really are and experience will show that they have it what it takes to survive them.

"FTWD" is a companion series and prequel to the hit drama "The Walking Dead," which also airs on AMC. "FTWD" will have a short run this season of six episodes and will graduate to 13 episodes in Season 2, much like "TWD" did in it's early days.
