2016 Presidential Race: Deez Nuts Gains Traction in North Carolina, Aims to Break Two-Party Political System
Although polls show that 2016 Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has taken lead in North Carolina, another unconventional candidate by the name of Deez Nuts is stealing some of his thunder.
According to a poll released Wednesday by Public Policy Polling, independent candidate Deez Nuts is polling at 9 percent in the Tar Heel state.
In reality, it turns out that Deez Nuts is actually a 15-year-old small-town farm boy from Wallingford, Iowa, named Brady Olson, reports The Daily Beast. Nonetheless, he's become an overnight Internet sensation with a growing fan base.
Olson, who is about to enter his sophomore year in high school, would have to wait two decades before he could legally run in a U.S. presidential race. However, he said that was moved to file his candidacy with the Federal Elections Commission last month due to his frustration with the current frontrunners in the race.
"I really didn't want to see Clinton, Bush or Trump in the White House, so I guess I'm just trying to put up a fight," he told Rolling Stone.
Olson said he's hoping to use his candidacy as a tool to "break the two-party [political] system.
Olson, who leans more towards the Libertarian Party, added that he is confident that he would make a better president than Trump "because I'm young and I think I have fresher ideas because whatever decisions I make would have longer effects on me."
However, if he was forced to back another presidential candidate he says he would support either Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders or Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson.
Olson also confirmed that he adopted his political name from the popular slang term "bofa deez nuts," which translates to "both of these nuts (or testicles)."
When asked how far he's willing to take his practical joke, he stated that he's in it for the long haul and promised to go "as far as America wants to take it."
