World Boxing Association welterweight champion Keith Thurman will likely defend his title against Shawn Porter on Oct. 3 on Premier Boxing Champions fight card, which will co-feature the match between Adrien Broner and Khabib Allakhverdiev.

According to Fighthype, the Thurman-Porter showdown is already being ironed out. Once finalized, the welterweight title bout will be the main event of the fight card.

Thurman, who holds a perfect 26-0 record with 22 knockout victories, is often criticized for cherry-picking opponents. According to Boxing News 24, the rumored fight against Porter will be the biggest test for Thurman.

Thurman is coming off a seventh-round knockout win against Luis Collazo in July. But before taking the victory, Thurman was hurt early in the match, which forced him to change his approach.

On the other hand, Porter is eyeing to become a world champion again. The 27-year-old lost his International Boxing Federation welterweight title to Kell Brook during their fight in August last year.

Following his loss to Brook, Porter bounced back with two consecutive victories this year -- against Erick Bone in March and Adrien Broner in June. Broner managed to knock Porter down during the final round of their fight, but the latter managed to survive and score a unanimous decision win.

Broner vs. Allakhverdiev as Co-Featured Bout

Meanwhile, Broner will look to bounce back from his humiliating defeat to Brook, as he is set to make his return to the ring against Allakhverdiev, a former super lightweight world champion.

Broner was previously considered as the next big thing in boxing, but his loss to Porter and his defeat to Marcos Maidana in December 2013 dropped his stock.

Against Allakhverdiev, Broner needs a dominating victory to silence his critics, but the Russian contender is also determined to make noise. The two boxers have started trading verbal jabs. Allakhverdiev recently called Broner a dirty, arrogant and ill-mannered fighter for his recent antics.

"That disgusting act when he videotaped himself as he flushed money down the toilet flush - it's awful," Allakhverdiev via BoxingScene. "It is vile and disgusting, such behavior is unacceptable. We believe that all sensible people feel the same."

Allakhverdiev holds a 19-1 record with nine knockout victories. His only loss came against Jessie Vargas during their International Boxing Organization and WBA super lightweight title fight in April 2014.
