Five Nights at Freddy’s 4 Game Theories: Is the Player the Bite of ’87 Patient or One of Missing Children?
Five Nights at Freddy's 4 has players reeling from jump scares and prowling animatronics, but some gamers are delving deeper into the video game to theorize on the storyline behind the bedroom, pill bottle, IV drip and mini-games.
The Five Nights at Freddy's 4 Protagonist is the Bite of '87 Patient
Kotaku reports that many gamers believe the pill bottle and the IV drip that appear in the video game's bedroom refer to the player's character being hospitalized after the Bite of '87. Many fans theorize that the player is the Bite of '87 patient who is in critical condition or a coma. The bedroom and lurking animatronics inside a house are hallucinations the patient is experiencing.
According to Kotaku, if you turn up the volume around the 6:58 mark of this video by Adam Sklar, which shows gameplay, you can hear a heart monitor flat line. The sound of the heart monitor flat line can be found in a game file titled "hospital flat line," which is more evidence that the player's character is hospitalized.
The player has his head chomped off by an animatronic at the end of Five Nights at Freddy's 4, which some gamers claim proves the storyline revolves around the Bite of '87.
The Five Nights at Freddy's 4 Protagonist is One of the Missing Children
Reddit user lupinoctourne disagrees the FNAF4 plot has anything to do with the Bite of '87. His theory is that the gameplay revolves around the Missing Children incident. The protagonist -- who he refers to as the "boy" -- is bit on a stage at the end of FNAF4. He theorizes it is the same stage as in the final mini-game of Five Nights at Freddy's 3, where the player, as the boy, walks from the stage.
"Now, probably not the exact same location, but it would be plausible because it's the symbol of his death, the place in the building that was his finale," NSFW wrote. "It's where the animatronics rest, and where he was hoisted up to meet his demise."
According to NSFW, it is Nightmare Fredbear, a.k.a. Golden Freddy, who appears on Five Nights at Freddy's 4 Night 5 to ensure the boy's demise.
Purple Man in Five Nights at Freddy's 4
The Purple Man is an antagonist throughout the Five Nights at Freddy's game series. He is responsible for the Missing Children incident. It is implied in the Death Mini-Games of FNAF2 that he's responsible for even more murders.
In Five Nights at Freddy's 4, after you beat Night 2, you are instructed to initiate a mini-game, but if you double-back instead, you will see the Purple Man helping someone into a suit. Many fans believe the scene provides evidence that the Purple Man is a former employee of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, and not only killed the four children, but he's returned to kill our hospitalized FNAF4 protagonist.
What is your theory about the Five Nights at Freddy's 4 storyline? Do you believe the gameplay in the house is merely a hallucination of a hospitalized patient? If so, is the patient the Bite of '87 victim, or a child that survived the murderous rampage of the Purple Man? Share your theories in the comment section below.
