The smash hit Netflix series House of Cards recently returned on Valentine's Day and fans happily dove back into this political thriller.

What used to be a BBC show back in the 1990s and based off a novel by Michael Dobbs, this story is set in today's Washington, D.C. It's a story about Frank Underwood (played by Kevin Spacey), who is a Democrat for South Carolina's fifth congressional district. After being passed over for appointment as Secretary of State, this story follows Underwood as he takes out his revenge on those who betrayed him, with Robin Wright, Kate Mara and Corey Stroll also starring this series deals with revenge, manipulation, and Underwood's plan to rise to power. It shows not only a satire of D.C but how journalists and politicians can leech off each other. Even though by the end of season one he receives the Vice-Presidency, season two delivers nothing less than what season one gave to its viewers.

Metacritic has rated House of Cards a 76 percent which means that any and all reviews received were generally favorable. Most have claimed that it is worthy enough to be compared to shows on HBO and Showtime. House of Cards earned Netflix the first Primetime Emmy Award nomination for original online-only web television. They also won Outstanding Directing, Casting, and Cinematography Primetime Emmy Awards. Out of the fourteen total nominations that Netflix offers, House of Cards received nine of them. House of Cars was nominated for Outstanding Drama series, Outstanding Lead actor/actress in a drama Series (Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright), and Outstanding directing for a Drama series, (David Fincher). The series also was awards four Golden Globe Award nominations.

Luckily for House of Cards fans, Netflix has announced that the show has been approved for a third season.
