The first look at the extended trailer and commentary for the new series on FX, "The Bastard Executioner," has arrived. The trailer, which is stuffed full of scenes and previews from the upcoming series, also features exclusive interviews and commentary from the stars and producers of the show.

According to Geeks of Doom, the show will be one of the bloodiest on cable network TV and will rival those of premium networks like HBO's "Game of Thrones" and Starz's "Outlander."

The series has been helmed by "Sons of Anarchy" creator Kurt Sutter, who has built a reputation on the FX network as a gritty show producer who likes to give rise to an anti-hero. On "Sons," his main anti-hero was Jax Teller (Charlie Hunnam). He was also a writer and the creative talent on "The Shield," which immortalized the character of Vic Mackey (Michael Chiklis).

"Bastard" is a period piece that takes place in the 14th century and features all of the Dark Ages bloody content, as appropriately hinted in the title. Sutter's wife Katey Sagal will also play a role on the new show. She previously played a lead role on "Sons" as well.

The series features the acting talents of Lee Jones (Wilkin Brattle), Elen Rhys (Petra Brattle), Sagal (Annora of the Alders), Stephen Moyer (Miles Corbett), and Flora Spencer-Longhurst (Lady Love Ventris). Kurt Sutter will also play a minor role in the series as The Dark Mute. He also played a role in "Sons" as Otto, the demented gang brother in prison.

As reported by Geeks of Doom, the official synopsis for the film reads as follows:

"The Bastard Executioner is a blood-soaked, medieval epic that tells the story of Wilkin Brattle, a 14th century warrior, whose life is forever changed when a divine messenger beseeches him to lay down his sword and lead the life of another man: a journeyman executioner. Set in northern Wales during a time rife with rebellion and political upheaval, Wilkin must walk a tight rope between protecting his true identity while also serving a mysterious destiny.

"Guided by Annora, a mystical healer whose seeming omniscience keeps Wilkin under her sway; manipulated by Milus Corbett, a devious Chamberlain with grand political aspirations; and driven by a deepening connection with the Baroness Lady Love, Wilkin struggles to navigate political, emotional and supernal pitfalls in his quest to understand his greater purpose."

The series will debut on FX on Sept. 15. See the trailer below.
