The upcoming second season of "Empire" will feature newcomer cast member Mo McRae, Variety reports.

McRae will be featured in three episodes playing Gabourey Sidibe's (Becky) love interest. McRae's character's name is J-Poppa, who is described as "a handsome, easygoing guy who is seeing Becky, assistant to Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard) at Empire Entertainment. J-Poppa also develops a strong connection with Andre (Trai Byers)."

McRae has previously worked with director Lee Daniels in the 2013 film "The Butler." "Empire" will mark his second time working with Daniels.

Variety reports that McRae is also a series regular on TNT's "Murder in the First," and he appeared in a few episodes of "Sons of Anarchy." His additional credits include "Ray Donovan," "Battle Creek" and Reese Witherspoon's "Wild." An upcoming role will be his appearance in HBO's biopic "All The Way."

News of McRae's appearance in "Empire" comes on the heels of reports that Mariah Carey will also be joining the "Empire" cast.

Daniels recently made an appearance at Carey's Hollywood Walk of Fame star ceremony and announced that the five-time Grammy Award-winning singer is set to guest star on "Empire" Season 2, E! News reports.

According to E!, Carey and Daniels previously joined forces when she starred in Daniels' Oscar-winning film "Precious."

Although no details have been disclosed regarding Carey's role on the show, E! News predicts that "Empire" cast member Jussie Smollett is more than thrilled about Carey's presence on the show.

Smollett once told E! that he had been campaigning to have Carey as one the show's guest stars for quite some time now.

"I keep saying, and I hope they can make this happen, because she's one of Lee's closest friends, I really want to see Mariah Carey on the show," he said.

In addition to Carey, Chris Rock will also be starring in "Empire's" upcoming second season.
