As the Winter Olympics continue in Sochi, Russia many have forgotten the plight of Russia's LGBT community. In recent years, Russia has cracked down on what it calls "gay propaganda" with hurtful legislature and by turning a blind eye to vigilante-like attacks on LGBT people throughout the nation. However, one celebrity has showed her support for the beleaguered minority via Instragram.

World famous singer Rihanna expressed her support for the LGBT community in Russia through a subtle photo on Instagram. In the black and white headshot, Rihanna shows only her eyes looking at the camera so the focus can be directed at the hat she wears. With a dark knitted cap, it would look unambiguous to many except for the two characters on one side that read "P6."

The P6 campaign takes its name from Principle 6 of the Olympic Charter which states, "Any form of discrimination with regard to a country or a person on grounds of race, religion, politics, gender or otherwise is incompatible with belonging to the Olympic Movement."

According to NBC News, the campaign was started by Hudson Taylor, an LGBT rights advocate, ally and former athlete. He also founded Athlete Ally to encourage LGBT athletes to come out. His organization teamed up with gay rights group All Out and the American Apparel clothing company to promote the campaign. The latter will make and sell t-shirts and hats promoting the statement. Taylor hoped that athletes would show support with simple messages on social media.

"There are some flexibilities on social media, but there's still a line that athletes need to walk. If we're looking at positive change, the best way to do that is to speak to the heart and the identity of what the Olympics should stand for," he said in an interview.

RiRi certainly showed her support just like Taylor intended, though her hat was not from American Apparel but rather one designed by Alexander Wang.
