The iPhone 6 may very well be the most talked about device of 2014. The surprising thing about that assertion is the the phone doesn't even exist yet. All the talk and buzz surrounding this handset is a testament to Apple's hype machine and the fervent user base that goes along with it.

So what will the ninth version of iPhone serve up? A sapphire crystal display could be on tap. If you're not familiar with sapphire crystal's scratch-resistant capabilities there's only one thing you need to know to be convinced of its awesomeness: it can withstand being scraped by concrete. Yup, concrete. Now that's whats up.

What other innovations will Apple design guru Jony Ive and his team of dedicated underlings bring us? 4G LTE-A is a slight possibility. Now, LTE-A isn't a night and day difference over regular LTE, but it does help to improve signal strength.

A larger, higher resolution display is very likely. Now, how large are we talking here? Don't expect anything quite as large as the HTC One Max or Samsung Galaxy Mega. Reputable rumors sites keep repeatedly citing reports that a 4.7-inch screen is in the works. The screen would feature a full HD resolution (1080 x 1920). Full HD also means that content will be shown in widescreen. This is a big deal because no iPhone has ever had a true 16:9 aspect ratio before (though the 5 and 5s came close). Movie watching and game playing will be more immersive then ever before; though reading enjoyment may suffer due to the skinny, longer screen.

Apple may also elect to release dual iPhone 6s. The only differences between the two devices would be screen size, resolution, device thickness, weight and pixels per inch count. The two iPhones would feature the A8 processor, though the higher resolution model would like feature a higher clock speed to performance issues. Releasing two very similar devices wouldn't be unprecedented for Apple since it already does the same thing with its iPad Air and iPad Mini with Retina Display tablet line.

Pretty exciting news, eh?
