iPhone 6 Plus Recall News: iSight Cameras Taking Blurry Photos Will Be Replaced by Apple
Apple is confirming that certain iPhone 6 Plus cameras might have a faulty component causing them to take blurry photos. Because of this, Apple is offering to replace the rear facing cameras for free.
Phones purchased between September 2014 and January 2015 with certain serial numbers can be repaired at any Apple Store or authorized Apple retailer, The Verge reports.
The iPhone 6 Plus is the largest iPhone made by Apple with a 5.5-inch screen. iPhone 6 Plus users have been complaining of blurry photos since shortly after the phone was introduced in September 2014.
The blurry photos are created when the camera fails to focus and might be related to the Optical Image Stabilization feature in the iPhone 6 Plus. The iPhone 6 does not have the Optical Image Stabilization feature and is not affected by the blurry photos issue.
Apple is reminding affected users to back up their data to iTunes or the iCloud before heading to an Apple Store for the camera replacement. Owners of a damaged iPhone 6 Plus with a cracked screen or other damages will have to get other problems fixed before the camera can be replaced. A damaged iPhone 6 Plus could prevent the camera from being fixed, MacRumors reports.
"If your iPhone 6 Plus has any damage such as a cracked screen which impairs the camera replacement, that issue will need to be resolved prior to service. In some cases, there may be a cost associated with the repair," Apple said.
The camera replacement program for the iPhone 6 Plus is called the iSight Camera Replacement program. Customers who get their cameras replaced will be covered by a three year warranty from the initial date of purchase of the iPhone 6 Plus.
iPhone 6 Plus owners who believe they have one of the faulty cameras can enter their serial number into Apple's support website to check if their handset will be covered by the free repair.
