It was extremely crowded in cinemas over the Valentine's/ President's day weekend. Even if the weekend was a holiday of hearts, "The Lego Movie" dominated the theater screenings bringing in about $48.8 out million.

The animated film is the first that centers on Emmet, an ordinary lego-figure who is mistaken for the most extraordinary person that will save the world. The movie featured Lego figurines like Batman, and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The official movie trailer is found below.

Lego stayed firmly at first place for the second weekend in a row, even on Valentine's weekend beating out the romantic comedy "About Last Night" might.

"It's had great word of mouth and it's really connecting with children and adults," said Phil Contrino, chief analyst at BoxOffice.com. "It's the kind of movie that Hollywood dreams about."

The animated film about the colorful toy blocks is expected to rake in a four-day gross over $60 million which may beat out the record Valentine's/ President's day weekend earner, "Valentine's Day" that debuted in 2010 with $63.1 million, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film is already at a domestic total of $129.1 million, says Indiewire.

Other contenders that squared off against Emmet and Co. include "About Last Night", a 1986 remake came in second bringing in $27 million on the U.S. holiday weekend. The film is an R-rated romance which starts Michael Ealy and Kevin Heart.

Third comes Sony's more remake of "Robocop" that earned $7 million on Friday and forecasted to bring in only $20 million in four days. "Robocop" was budgeted at $100 million, opened early in 27 international markets and has so far made over $40 million thus far, reports Variety.

"Monuments Man" which seemed more popular with the above-45 crowd brought in $15 million for Friday to Sunday, which makes its total $46.3 million domestically in week two, landing it 4th place over the weekend.
