UFC News & Notes: Chris Weidman Tells Anderson Silva 'People Don't Like Liars'
Reigning UFC middleweight champion, Chris Weidman, gave his thoughts on Anderson "The Spider" Silva testing positive on a variety of banned substances after his match against Nick Diaz in UFC 183. Weidman was interviewed on "The MMA Hour" via SB Nation.
Silva was suspended for one year by the Nevada State Athletic Commission until Jan. 31, 2016 and was fined $380,000, according to a report from MMA Frenzy.
Silva's camp claimed that "The Spider" did not knowingly took the performance enhancing drugs and pointed out that he never failed any of his drug tests in the UFC. His camp blamed a tainted sexual enhancement drug from Thailand.
Weidman said, as quoted by SB Nation, "I don't want to just starting talking without knowing all of the facts, but I saw some people said that he changed his story like three times. I saw Bas Rutten said that. And my thing is just, everyone is a screw-up. I tweeted this out. But everybody messes up, so people understand that. But people don't like liars."
He also pointed out the lame excuse made by Silva's camp and said, "So if you mess up, man, just be honest. People respect that and understand it because everyone messes up. People appreciate honesty. And if you're changing your story three different times, that doesn't sound good. Just fess up."
Also, in the interview, Weidman talked about a strange trend happening against his former opponents starting from Mark Muñoz.
"I feel like everybody who I fight, they're doing so good, everyone thinks they're going to beat me. Then after I beat them, they just don't look too good anymore. You can start with Mark Muñoz, I think he was on a three- or four-fight win streak. Then I beat him and he went on a pretty crazy losing streak and then he sucked in people's eyes."
"Then obviously the Anderson Silva fights, people have a million excuses afterwards. I stayed on course and took him out. Since then, he hasn't looked so good. And then, obviously, Lyoto Machida. Poor Lyoto, he's going through a tough patch. And Vitor, we'll see what happens with him. But there seems to always be, no matter what, it's just excuses, excuses," he said.
Weidman is scheduled to take on Luke Rockhold at UFC 194 in Las Vegas, Nev., on Dec. 12. Rockhold and Weidman are taking shots on each other in social media and interviews, per another report from SB Nation.
