NFL Rumors 2015: Randy Moss to Come Out of Retirement?
There are rumors that retired NFL wide receiver, Randy Moss, will have a possible comeback. Moss last played in the 2012 season for the San Francisco 49ers, where they lost to the Baltimore Ravens in the Super Bowl.
He told FOX about his possible comeback, as quoted by Pro Football Talk, "I actually have not lost the itch. I've been working out with a few guys over the offseason. I have been retired for the last two years, but you never know. But it's the love of the game that I still have inside of me."
Some NFL teams might consider Moss because of some of their wide receivers are injured. The Carolina Panthers lost Kelvin Benjamin for the season with an ACL tear, as per Sports Illustrated, while the Green Bay Packers lost Jordy Nelson for the season with a torn ACL, according to Ian Rapoport on Twitter.
The Packers have consistently resisted adding Moss over the past years due to the receiver being a former member of the Minnesota Vikings, per Pro Football Talk.
Moss' former team, the New England Patriots, also need an upgrade in the wide receiver section but has opted for Reggie Wayne. ESPN reported that the Patriots gave Wayne a physical and signed him to a contract.
But if the ACL tear trend continues to hit other wide receivers, big name quarterbacks would probably like to have one of the greatest receivers in the history of the game. According to Bleacher Report, Moss has some of the best statistics in the history of the league.
He is a six-time Pro Bowler and the 1998 Associated Press Rookie of the Year. He is the second all-time in received touchdowns with 156 and third all-time with 15,292 receiving yards. Moss also has 10 different seasons with at least 1,000 receiving yards in his career.
During his last season in 2012, he only had 434 receiving yards with the 49ers and 393 receiving yards with three different teams in 2010. Moss is also 38 years old and has a lot of wear and tear on his body.
Moss played 14 seasons in the NFL. He was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in 1998 before being traded to the Oakland Raiders in 2005. Moss was then traded to the New England Patriots in the 2007 season and played there for four seasons. He then bounced around with the Vikings and Tennessee Titans before retiring with the 49ers in 2012.
