'Bones' Season 11 Spoilers: Actor David Boreanaz Explains Why He's Missing in New Season Beginning, Will Arastoo and Cam Remain Together?
"Bones" star David Boreanaz revealed why his character, Seeley Booth, will be missing in action when the long-running comedy kicks off its 11th season on Fox this fall.
The series star released a statement, revealing he was forced to take time off from work due to a health scare after suffering a bad reaction to an antibiotic. As a result, the storyline in the Season 11 premiere revolves around the disappearance of Booth.
"Nothing matters to me more than 'Bones,' so I was thrilled when the producers came up with a way for me to take a few extra weeks to recover from a personal health issue without delaying production ... I'm happy to say that I'm now feeling great and will be back to work tomorrow, and that our 11th season premiere will broadcast on schedule - with me in it," said Boreanaz, according to TVLine.
Fortunately, it looks like Boreanaz has made a full recovery, and he reportedly will return to work on Tuesday, Aug. 25. He will also tape scenes that can be inserted into the episodes he missed, including the Oct. 1 premiere.
The beginning of the new season will also find Booth and Brennan working in new positions outside of the Jeffersonian Institution. As fans may recall, the married couple decided to trade in their crime-fighting careers at the Jeffersonian for an alternative lifestyle during the Season 10 finale. However, although they agreed to give up their dangerous careers, showrunner Michael Peterson said Booth will still be tied to the FBI in some capacity.
"Booth is teaching at Quantico, so he's left the old life behind," Peterson told Entertainment Weekly. Meanwhile, Brennan has made the best of her time away from the Jeffersonian.
"Besides just giving birth to a child, Brennan never has trouble filling up her time. She's written books, she's done multiple projects. She's more in between than Booth. She's diversified herself into many projects, so she hasn't quite landed on the one," said Peterson.
In the meantime, Arastoo will have a hard time running the Jeffersonian during the six months that Booth and Bones spend away. It will also put a damper on his relationship with Cam.
"In the six months since Brennan left, Arastoo has pretty much been the main person taking over the lab," Peterson told TVLine. "With everything [that happens] in the first two episodes, it's going to be a challenge for their relationship."
Season 11 of "Bones" will premiere on Thursday, Oct. 1 at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
