“Switched at Birth,” ABC Family’s hit teen drama, is delving into some “Mean Girls” territory.

As reported in Spoilers Guide, episode 12 of season 4, entitled "How Does A Girl Like You Get To Be a Girl Like You?" focuses on a new harassment policy that puts Bay (Vanessa Marano) at the center of some unwanted attention. A promo for the show has Bay fed up with all the behind-her-back talk coming her way and screaming outside of campus, “If anyone has anything to say to me, say it to my face!”

The episode is likely haunted by the repercussions of a drunken night Bay spent with ex-boyfriend Tank (Max Adler) earlier in the show’s season. Speaking with Zap2it, Marano describes her character as “just a broken human being who doesn’t have anything to claim as her own life.”

However, a sneak peek into next week's episode, via the show's Facebook page, reveals a new step for Bay. She will start taking Spanish classes.

“Switched at Birth” returned for the second half of season 4 with an unexpected pregnancy for the family to deal with and, as showrunner Lizzy Weiss explained to The Hollywood Reporter, “a lot of changes in the family."

An observable change in this season is Bay’s state of heartache over the turn her failed relationship with Emmett (Sean Berdy) has taken. Weiss spoke of Bay’s maudlin state as an identifiable experience for viewers, saying, “She's spending a lot of time in bed with the curtains closed and she's obsessing, and I think girls do that a lot."

"They obsess and run over in their heads again and again and again what happened and what went wrong, what I could have done differently," says Weiss, adding, “I just really wanted to explore that nightmarish feeling of not being able to get out of that loop in your head and replaying good moments and bad moments.”

“Switched at Birth” airs Monday nights on ABC Family at 8 p.m.
