The origins of Batman have been tested onscreen in various ways for film, but now that the hit Fox series "Gotham" has debuted its successful first season run, the story centers mostly on the origins of the eventual commissioner Jim Gordon.

As reported by Comic Book, series star Ben McKenzie plays Gordon in the series and although a young Bruce Wayne is very present in the DC TV Universe, his alter ego of Batman is not. That's for good reason, so fans will get to see what he goes through as a young man what shapes his future as the Dark Knight. It was partly due to his unlikely friendship with Gordon that he becomes the legendary hero of Gotham, in the future.

But the series has a true focus on the rise of Gordon, through his years as a rookie cop and what kind of experiences shaped him before he became commissioner in the latter years during Batman's tenure.

That does not mean Batman won't make an appearance in the show at some point though. It just means that the show is not about the alter ego.

As spoken through McKenzie's very own mouth at Wizard World Chicago during the "Gotham" panel, McKenzie let the cat out of the bag as to when Batman will show up.

"In the very last frame of the very last scene of the very last episode of the very last season of 'Gotham,' whatever season that may be, that's when we'll see Bruce Wayne put on the cape and cowl," McKenzie said.

Of course, that only makes sense. The show is called "Gotham" for a reason. It is not about the Caped Crusader but rather about the universe that shaped him. Fans need to know what factors surrounded the man before he became a dark vigilante in the night. That was the original premise for the show in the beginning.
