Washington Nationals star pitcher Max Scherzer has acquired a luxury property in Virginia.

The 31-year-old baseball player bought a McLean 7,160-square-foot home worth $5.2 million, Realtor.com reported.

According to its previous listing, the former Detroit Tigers athlete's new residence includes four bedrooms, four and a half bathrooms, an attached garage and a fireplace. The dwelling place built in 1986, is also sitting on an expansive lot measuring 3.07 acres, enough for the Nationals' ace pitcher to practice his throws.

The real estate site noted that the Cy Young Award-winning baseball player's two-story home is also an "award winner." It was reportedly designed by Architect Robert Mobley who was given the Fairfax County Exceptional Design Merit Award for his work on this particular property.

The dwelling place also displays huge glass panels that give an indoor-outdoor experience - a feeling of harmony with the surrounding nature - as natural light enters the abode and verdant views are seen from the inside.

"The window views of the [Potomac] river are exceptional. It's just totally stunning, because you're right there at the water looking at it coming over the dam," Listing agent Michael Anastasia of TTR Sotheby told the Realtor.com

Photos of the home are shown on Curbed, displaying the elegant features of the home including an indoor pool, a spacious living room, a kitchen equipped with an island, a study room and an office.

A lucrative deal with the Nationals

Scherzer signed a seven-year, $210 million contract, which includes a $50 million signing bonus with the Nationals from a free agent status, ESPN reported. He initially refused the seven-year, $160 million offer from the Tigers, where he played for five seasons, according to the Washington Post. With the Detroit Team, he earned the 2013 Cy Young Award and twice he gained the status of an All-Star player.

"I don't play this game for money, but yet at the same time, when you have an offer like that, it just makes you go, 'Wow.'" Scherzer said.
