There are several reasons for visiting Singapore. In fact, this developed country in the Southeast Asian region is considered as one of the top tourist destinations in the world. According to Singapore tourism board statistics, in the second quarter of 2013 alone, the country has accepted 3.9 million tourists. This represents a growth rate of 10 percent. The overall tourism receipts have also increased by 2 percent. This translates to $5.6 billion on the said period alone. The increase in leisure visitor arrivals also went up by 16 percent. Here are some of the reasons why Singapore is so popular:
- There are a lot of tourist attractions in the country. Whether one wants to visit world-class zoos, enjoy luxurious hotels, take time to enjoy national parks and recreation centers, everything can be found in Singapore.
- The country is also a haven for history buffs. One can visit a lot of historical museums and galleries. In fact, some of the country's hotels have been in operation for several years now. The Raffles Hotel, for instance, opened in 1887.
- The shopping scene in Singapore is perfect. From high quality branded items to cheap local products, everything can be found all over the country. They also have a great tax free policy of up to 7 percent for certain items. Upon leaving the country via Changi airport, tax refunds can be made.
- The country is a gateway to many other places. In fact, there are several direct flights to Singapore from all over the world. This country has also become a stopping point for people who wish to go to other neighboring countries. The bus and rail systems in Singapore are also comfortable and organized.
Given these reasons, Singapore has maintained its lead in terms of being a popular tourist destination. The 2013 figure is even projected to increase drastically in 2014.
