Canadian pop star Justin Bieber dropped his new single "What Do You Mean?" on Friday, hours after the lyric video was leaked online, reports Entertainment Weekly.

Bieber did not comment on the leak, but teased fans for days about the upcoming release via Twitter. Britney Spears, Gigi Hadid and other stars helped the "Boyfriend" singer count down the release of his latest single on Twitter.

He also recruited celebrities, including Martha Stewart, Alec Baldwin and Kendall Jenner, to promote the single on his Instagram account. On Friday morning he posted a fun video of him and Ellen DeGeneres touting the new song.

The "Home to Mama" singer posted the song's Spotify link on Friday with the caption, "i'm back." The official lyric video, which includes skateboarders Chelsea Castro and Ryan Sheckler, plus a cameo from Bieber, followed.

USA Today describes "What Do You Mean?" as a "catchy dance track for the club." In it the Biebs sings, "What do you mean? / When you nod your head yes / But you wanna say no / What do you mean?"

The song is the lead single from Bieber's next album, which has not yet been titled.

Daily Mail reports that the 21-year-old is scheduled for a variety of live performances, starting with the MTV Video Music Awards hosted by Miley Cyrus on Sunday, Aug. 31.

The last time he performed at the VMAs was in 2010. This year, he joins the lineup of performers, which include headliners Nicki Minaj, Pharrell Williams, the Weeknd, Ryan Lewis, Demi Lovato, Tori Kelly, Macklemore, and A$AP Rocky.

Following the MTV VMAs, Bieber will perform during "The Today Show" concert series in New York on Sept. 10, according to Daily Mail.

It's been three years since the Biebs dropped a new album, though he has been featured on other recording artists' tracks, like Jack Ü's February remix song "Where Are Ü Now." His attention was on other projects, and getting his life on track.

In an interview on "Elvis Duran and the Morning Show" that aired Friday morning, Bieber explained that with a new support system of people, his attitude and music have improved immensely.

"I just want to be around people who I feel are supporting me, uplifting me, and making sure I'm the best version of myself because there are so many people in this industry who just want to keep seeing me fall," he said.
