Chicago Cubs' Jake Arrieta Throws 14th No Hitter in Cubs History Against the Dodgers [Watch]
Jake Arrieta has thrown the sixth no-hitter this season, as the Chicago Cubs defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 2-0.
According to Bleacher Report, Arrieta was dominant last night as he tallied 12 strikeouts against the Los Angeles Dodgers as the Cubs snapped out of a four-game losing streak.
It has been a rough 10 days for the Dodgers. On Aug. 21, the Dodgers were no-hit by Houston Astros pitcher Mike Fiers. They became the first team since the 2010 Tampa Bay Rays to get no-hit twice in the same season.
In an interview after the game, the 29-year-old Arrieta stated that he dreamed of throwing a no-hitter during his career. "You see other guys around the league do it and you want to be a part of something like that," he said. "So it's not only special for me and my family and friends, but for the organization and my teammates. They embraced me after the game, and it was extremely special to see how excited they were for what I was able to do."
Cubs Kris Bryant provided the only two runs in the game, a two-run homer off Alex Wood in the first inning.
However, the Dodgers believe that they have gotten no-hit based on a controversial call. In the third inning, Dodgers Enrique Hernandez hit a hard ball at second baseman Starlin Castro. The ball took a short hop, and Castro wasn't able to handle it. Hernandez made it safely to first. The scorekeeper at Dodgers Stadium ruled it an error. With the no-hitter, Arrieta is now leading the majors in wins with 17. He is 17-6 with a 2.11 ERA this season. His name has been mentioned in the National League Cy Young conversation.
