Google Logo: Brand New Corporate Logo For Internet Search Giant
Google is getting a new logo, with different style lettering and a simpler font. The new logo comes just weeks after Google did a major shakeup that will put it under its new holding company called Alphabet, CNET reports.
The letters spelling out Google are simpler and the hues are flatter, looking more like Alphabet's logo. The letters no longer have serifs, or hooks and embellishments on them anymore. The logo is still quite playful, just less fancy. The colors will remain the same.
Google admits it is a completely different company than it was when it first started way back in 1998. The Mountain View, California company now makes software, smartphones, tablets, smart eyeglasses and is designing self-driving cars.
The logo change is useful for mobile devices. When the search engine was first created it was meant for desktop computers, but now people access the site from mobile devices and tablets. The new logo will be easier to read on smaller devices, even smartwatches, Google said.
"These days, people interact with Google products across many different platforms, apps and devices -- sometimes all in a single day," wrote Tamar Yehoshua, a vice president in product management, and Bobby Nath, director of user experience.
Since its beginning, Google has updated its logo six times to keep up with new devices. Each time it was updated, it was a small refinement.
Google has also been updating its mobile software Android. Last year's Android Lollipop focused on more 3D looks and animations. Now, Google will be creating an additional update to Android called Marshmallow.
Facebook also recently updated its logo in May with a slimmer look. Facebook also said that the change would make the logo appear easily on smartphones.
