Google Nexus 6 Event Date: Tech Giant Reveals September Announcement for Two New Nexus Devices
Google is coming out with two Nexus smartphones this year and will officially announce them at an event held in San Francisco, California in late September.
People familiar with Google's plans revealed the event, held on Sept. 29, will be the company's chance to unveil two versions of its own phone, CNET reports. One will be a larger version made by Huawei, and the other will have a smaller screen and will be made by LG.
Nexus is Google's flagship phone and the company's opportunity to show off its latest update to their operating system Android. The latest update coming to Android will be version 6.0, or Marshmallow. Before it was Marshmallow, the upcoming version of Android was simply referred to as Android M.
Android fans appreciate that Nexus smartphones do not customize the Android operating system or add any tweaks to it. Instead, Google keeps the Android experience free of these tweaks and LG and Huawei should see some of these Android fans excited to get their hands on the new Nexus phones.
Huawei is getting a big boost by creating a Nexus phone. The Chinese handset maker is trying to create more high-end devices and improve its brand, but not many people besides those in China are familiar with the company. By partnering with Google, Huawei should see their reputation and awareness rise.
LG is used to partnering with Google, having created both the Nexus 4 and Nexus 5. Both of those Nexus devices were well regarded for their designs, internal components and affordable prices.
Google will need to be strategic on the pricing for the next Nexus devices. Handset makers are releasing high-quality smartphones at affordable prices. Motorola just released its Moto X Pure Edition for $399, and other companies like ZTE, Huawei and Alcatel OneTouch are offering even cheaper smartphones. Apple is sticking with their high price tag on the iPhone 6 which costs $650 without a contract.
According to Phone Arena, the Huawei Nexus will use the Snapdragon 810 processor, and the LG Nexus will use the Snapdragon 808 processor.
