San Antonio Deputy Involved Shooting: Unedited Video Made Available Online, 2 Deputy Sheriffs Fatally Shoot Man
An unedited video involving two San Antonio sheriff deputies shooting a 41-year-old man was made available for online viewing, according to ABC affiliate KSAT 12.
The two Bexar County sheriff deputies, Greg Vasquez and Robert Sanchez, are on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. Gilbert Flores, the suspect, was fatally shot outside a home in the 24400 block of Walnut Pass.
The news organization obtained the video on Friday where the two sheriffs were responding to a domestic violence call.
According the evidence found on the video, it is unclear if the shooting was justified. The Bexar County Sheriff's Office and District Attorney's office have addressed the incident and are completing an ongoing investigation.
The video, acquired by Michael Thomas, is available on KSAT.com for viewers to make their own decision on whether to view it or not.
Meanwhile, CNN reports that the video shows that Flores had "something in his hand" at the time of the shooting, according to Bexar County Sheriff Susan Pamerleau.
Authorities say they think the suspect had a knife in his hand, although the video is not clear enough for them to see that.
Parmerleau says authorities are asking for the Texas Department of Public Safety's crime lab to "enlarge and to slow down the sequence" so investigators can get "a better idea of exactly what he had in his hand."
The sheriff also added that the video available online is shot from a different angle than the cell phone video that was shown by the media.
Parmerleau said the video does "cause concern" but that both deputies tried to use a Taser on Flores before firing their guns.
In the video Thomas provided, Flores raised at least one hand in the air before being fatally shot.
"At the time he was shot, it didn't look like he was posing a threat at all," he said.
Thomas assumed he had both hands up but his left arm was blocked by a pole.
