Dwight Howard Gun: Houston Rockets NBA Star Detained for Carrying Loaded Weapon
Houston Rockets center Dwight Howard accidentally put a gun on his carry-on bag and got caught for it.
According to ESPN, the Rockets center was detained at George Bush International Airport yesterday after TSA officials found a gun that was in Howard's carry-on bag. Howard was stopped at Terminal E at 7 a.m. yesterday after a TSA official discovered a pistol at the bottom of his bag.
Howard was detained and told officials that the gun was registered to him and was allowed to give the gun to an associate. Howard was released and was allowed to board a later flight.
According to the Dallas Morning News, a recent legislation has been passed that allows registered gun holders a "free" pass for forgetting the gun in their luggages. Before this was passed, anyone who was carrying a gun in their luggage resulted in a third-degree felony charge. The legislation went into effect on Sept. 1.
Howard spent the first eight seasons with the Orlando Magic where he lead the team to its second NBA Finals appearance in 2009. He was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers in 2012 and had a hard time getting along with former teammate Kobe Bryant. In an recent interview with DIME, Bryant says that playing with Howard made him appreciate playing with former center Shaquille O'Neal. Bryant stated: "I didn't appreciate Shaq until I played with Dwight Howard."
In 2013, Howard left the Lakers to sign a four-year $87,591,270 contract with the Houston Rockets, including $87,591,270 in guaranteed money. He lead the Rockets to the Western Conference Finals where they were eventually defeated by the eventual NBA champions the Golden State Warriors.
