Tim Lincecum will miss the rest of the season after undergoing hip surgery at a clinic in Colorado, as reported by San Francisco Chronicle. It seems that he has thrown his final pitch with the San Francisco Giants as he is set to be a free agent at the end of the season.

The San Francisco Giants released a statement via Facebook saying, "San Francisco Giants pitcher Tim Lincecum underwent successful arthroscopic surgery this morning on his left hip by Dr. Marc Philippon at the Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colorado. Lincecum is resting comfortably and is expected to begin his rehab in the next few days in preparation for the 2016 season."

"The Freak" has not pitched for the Giants since June 27 against the Colorado Rockies after being hit by a line drive in the forearm. Mercury News reports that he was diagnosed with a degenerative hip condition while recovering from the injury and suffered a setback while rehabbing in Arizona.

He was asked if he has pitched his last for the Giants. Lincecum said, "I really don't know. I mean, I hope not. I can't predict the future. I have good days and bad days. The bad days are outshining the good ones."

Giants general manager Bobby Evans said during an interview on KNBR via San Francisco Chronicle, "He won't be able to come back this season. That's evident. The next step for him is to do everything he can and get back and get well, but it's going to take him out for the season. What that leads to in terms of his progression health wise will dictate what opportunities he has with us or elsewhere."

In the same report, Giants team trainer Dave Groeschner said that the surgery involved shredding a bone to take care of the impingement and repairing his labrum. He is expected to be ready for spring training and will be recovering in Arizona for five months.

Lincecum was drafted 10th overall by the Giants in 2006 out of University of Washington. He won the Cy Young award in his first full season in 2008 and won it again the next season. He helped the Giants win the 2010 World Series by winning two at the Fall Classic. He also won two other World Series rings with the Giants in 2012 and 2014, as reported by ESPN.

His overall effectiveness declined after the 2011 season, mainly because of his unorthodox windup and delivery. He remains as one of the most beloved Giant of the Bay Area. Maybe the Giants will bring him back to a minor league deal next season. Giants manager Bruce Bochy commented about the possibility of Lincecum returning via ESPN, saying, "My door will always be open for Tim Lincecum. That's how much I think about him.
