Girl Scout Cookies 2014: Teenage Scout's "Cool Parent" Lets Daughter Get High Sales Outside of Medical Dispensary
Wouldn't it be nice if you could pick up your medical marijuana and munchies in one stop? Thanks to one Girl Scout, now folks who get their weed from a certain dispensary in San Francisco can.
"You put it in terms that they may understand," Carol, the mother of the Girl Scout, told Mashable. "I'm not condoning it, I'm not saying go out in the streets and take marijuana [...] It also adds a little bit of cool factor. I can be a cool parent for a little bit."
Danielle Lei, a 13-year-old Girl Scout, has been tempting smokers outside of marijuana dispensaries for a while. On President's Day, Lei stopped outside of The Green Cross, a San Francisco clinic, and sold 117 boxes in two hours. The next day, Lei tried to sell her Thin Mints and such outside of a Safeway, and shockingly, got less impressive results; she only sold 80 boxes.
Carol believes that selling outside of dispensaries helps Lei learn how different people use and/or abuse marijuana. The Green Cross was happy to grant Lei permission to set-up shop.
"It's no secret that cannabis is a powerful appetite stimulant, so we knew this would be a very beneficial endeavor for the girls," Holli Bert, a staff member at The Green Cross, said. "It's all about location, and what better place to sell Girl Scout cookies than outside a medical cannabis collective?"
The Girls Scouts of Northern California do not mind Lei's tactics either.
"Girls are selling cookies, and they and their parents pick out places where they can make good sales," Dana Allen, director of marketing and communications for Girl Scouts of Northern California, said. "The mom decided this was a place she was comfortable with her daughter being at...We're not telling people where they can and can't go if it's a legitimate business."
Most seem to support Lei's success, but some parents are concerned.
"It's kinda like setting up outside the liquor store. I'm pro pot also. The age of the avg. girl scout makes me say no," Kevin Hall told First to Know.
"Um, this just sounds like one big publicity stunt for this Marijuana Shop," Todd McMahon added.
The Green Cross is now promoting the cookie sales on its Facebook page. Lei will return with all the Tagalongs a stoner can dream of on Saturday from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m.
