Colombia vs. Peru Preview, Predictions, Stream, Schedule, Lineups
Colombia and Peru face off in an international friendly in a rematch of this past summer's Copa America matchup.
Los Cafeteros, led by James Rodriguez, were poised to be favorites to win the CONMEBOL tournament after a meteoric rise in the 2014 World Cup. However, after losing their opener against Venezuela in a weak offensive display, the world started to wonder about the team's legitimacy as a contender. The 1-0 win over Brazil helped Colombia regain a certain degree of respectability but the game against Peru brought up more questions.
Colombia stumbled throughout the game, failing to ask many question of Peru's defense which wound up comfortable in a 0-0 draw. At the end of the night Peru came away with second place in the group, a date with Bolivia and eventually third place in the tournament.
Colombia, meanwhile, had to face Argentina, a team that could have easily won 5-0 if not for a brilliant turn from goalie David Ospina.
Lost in all of this was Rodriguez who had no influence in the entire tournament, a far cry from his 2014 performance when he led all World Cup performers with six goals.
Rodriguez, however, is back in top form after scoring two spectacular goals and setting another one up for Real Madrid in the team's 5-0 win over Real Betis. He will look for that vindication on his national side in a game that could get Colombia back on track.
It will also be interesting to see whether Radamel Falcao gets a shot to start in the game. The captain was dreadful in Chile over the summer and has yet to prove that his form is back. It certainly does not help that he is playing for a massively underachieving Chelsea side.
Prediction: Colombia and Peru tie 1-1.
