NBC has now picked up a pilot order for three legendary characters that have appeared in the imaginations of horror pop fiction now for well over a century. "Brides of Dracula" pilot episode has been ordered by the Peacock network in response to all of the modern craze for horror TV, according to Deadline.

"Brides of Dracula" holds a true historical significance, as they actually did appear in the Bram Stoker novel in the late 19th century. The novel, "Dracula," has made immense waves in popular fiction ever since, getting adaptations in both film and TV as well as spinoff novels, comic books and stageplays.

The original story featured the Brides as seductive temptresses who entranced their unknowing victims into their lair and fed off them, much like Dracula himself did with the women he seduced.

In the new TV series that's slated for a pilot order, the series will feature the three fictional characters in modern times and will have a more empowering theme to it for women.

In the original story, the fictional character professor Van Helsing killed the three brides. But in the new TV show, the series shows the Brides survived Van Helsing's attack and have thrived through the past century. They have achieved financial and societal success, and they live as strong, independent women.

Although the fictional characters have appeared in many of the films that have portrayed the classic Dracula story, they have played secondary and minor characters. There were a few exceptions, such as the 1960 British film "The Brides of Dracula."

But now, the network has opted to bring their story to the small screen and give them the empowerment they need to draw in a new audience.

The series has been billed as a "hot gothic soap opera" written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, a playwright and comic book writer. There has been no word yet as to when production for the series will start, nor when it will air on the network.
