Astute viewers of the Winter Olympics last night will have noticed that the network, NBC, surprised viewers with a teaser trailer of Heroes. Does this mean the breakout television show will be back on the air? All indications say yes: The trailer was entitled Heroes Reborn and the 21 second clip did not show any plot indications but said it was coming in 2015 and included the hashtag #HeroesReborn.

So far we know that Heroes Reborn is slated to become a 13 episode miniseries with its own story arc, meaning it will break the continuity from previous seasons. This could be a good or bad thing, especially for those viewers who considered the show to be dying out and losing steam by the end of its run. The stand-alone story arc will give producers and writers as well as actors a chance to inject some energy into the show. The network may be employing the miniseries strategy which has worked well for shows like House of Cards and Orange is the New Black, which all feature 13 episodes released at the same time and have historically drawn millions of viewers. Add to that, there were many fans of Heroes who were sad to see the show go the way it did.

"The enormous impact 'Heroes' had on the television landscape when it first launched in 2006 was eye-opening," said NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke. "Shows with that kind of resonance don't come around often and we thought it was time for another installment. We're thrilled that visionary creator Tim Kring was as excited about jumping back into this show as we were and we look forward to all the new textures and layers Tim plans to add to his original concept. Until we get closer to air in 2015, the show will be appropriately shrouded in secrecy, but we won't rule out the possibility of some of the show's original cast members popping back in."

The original show was planned to have a different story arc each season but developers ended up making it follow the same set of characters from the first season throughout its entire four-year run. They may actually follow the original blueprint this time, as creator Tim Kring is returning to executive produce the miniseries. Stay tuned because a digital series is set to debut prior to Reborn to introduce the main characters.
