Although nearly 20 years have passed since the original "Trainspotting," all the actors from the original have expressed sincere interest in doing a sequel to the film, which was a breakout cult hit for most of them back in 1996. Director Danny Boyle, who is also famous for his movie "28 Days Later," has said he is ready to do a sequel of the film.

According to Deadline, Boyle is now in the earliest stages of making that dream come alive. The original film was based on a novel. The novel's sequel will serve as the basis for the sequel film, which already has a script.

Boyle described the screenplay as truly worthy of production, and now it is all a matter of scheduling.

The original movie featured younger versions of rising stars Ewan McGregor, Jonny Lee Miller, Kevin McKidd and Robert Carlyle. The film also featured actress Kelly Macdonald ("Boardwalk Empire") in a minor role.

The story was about a cast of twenty-somethings as they ventured across Edinburgh in a drug-fueled, youthful frenzy. Their misadventures were portrayed on film as both comical and, at times, horrifying.

The film quickly gained international recognition upon its release and has been a cult classic ever since.

The major challenge moving forward is getting all of the original actors together for production scheduling, which might prove to be very difficult at the moment. Even though they are all willing to return and reprise their roles, they have quite busy schedules. Carlyle is currently doing the American TV series "Once Upon a Time," and Miller is also headlining the American TV series "Elementary."

With schedules so tight, Boyle will either have to work around them to get the new film made, or recast the roles. But a role recast could be detrimental to the eventual success of the film, given the original had such a devoted following.
