The new FX drama "The Bastard Executioner" is set to premiere next week on the cable network with a double dose of the mayhem and carnage that is so inherent to creator Kurt Sutter. The episodes are titled "Pilot, Parts 1 & 2," and will air back-to-back on Tuesday, Sept. 15 starting at 10 p.m. EDT, according to TV Guide.

When the show opens up, fans can expect to see the title character of the series Wilkin Brattle (Lee Jones) settling back in to his life as a farmer after having been a warrior knight for King Edward I for many years, according to Spoilers Guide.

Brattle was not just any warrior knight but rather the man in charge of the king himself, and once his service was complete, he wanted nothing more but to settle back into his domesticated life and live out his days.

But events of the series force him suddenly back out of retirement, and now he must contend with his old ways. He must brush off his bloodiest sword and bring it back to court for a new call of duty, one that he thought he had been left far behind.

His vague peaceful existence will hold no sway over whether or not he will return. He is forced to by duty, and the violence of his past gives him no better qualifications but to be the most likely candidate.

This series, which takes place in the Middle Ages, explores the violent depravity of the era and spares no expense for the viewer. Creator Kurt Sutter is very well known for portraying the gritty side of life and crime on shows like "Sons of Anarchy" and "The Shield," according to Forbes.

The series is expected to be another huge draw for the network and for Sutter, who has been one of FX's most compelling storytellers.
