2016 GOP presidential rivals Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Donald Trump teamed up on Wednesday to attack President Barack Obama's historic Iran nuclear deal at a protest rally in Washington, D.C.

Back in July, Obama announced that the U.S. and five other world powers reached a landmark agreement with Iran, which limits its nuclear program and eases economic sanctions on the Islamic republic. As a result, Iran will be granted access to billions of dollars in relief.

Critics, however, argue that Iran cannot be trusted and will use the money to continue to build nuclear weapons. The majority of Republican leaders in the House and Senate have also promised to vote down the nuclear deal once the resolution is presented for a vote. Nonetheless, the Obama administration still managed to secure enough votes to override any resolution of disapproval.

In an effort to rally support against the deal, Cruz and Trump held a demonstration on the west lawn of the U.S. Capitol, warning the deal is a catastrophe that will cost American lives.

"We are led by very, very stupid people," Trump told several hundred Tea Party members gathered at the event, which was sponsored by the Center for Security Policy, the Zionist Organization of America and the Tea Party Patriots. "Never ever in my entire life have I seen any deal as incompetently negotiated as our deal with Iran," Trump said, according to WUSA 9.

"We will have so much winning if I'm elected that you may get bored with winning," said Trump.

Cruz said the deal is "the single greatest national security threat facing America" because, according to him, Iran will not honor its commitment to forgo nuclear weapons,

"Any Commander in Chief worthy of defending this nation should be prepared to stand up on January 20, 2017 and rip to shreds this catastrophic deal," Cruz said at the crowd, which shouted "Yeah!" in response and "Kill The Deal!"
