'Outlander' Season 2 Spoilers & Cast News: Who Will Play Jamie and Claire's Daughter?
“Outlander,” the hit time travel series based on a set of novels by Diana Gabaldon, has issued a casting call for a pivotal character named Brianna.
Fans of Gabaldon’s fiction will know the character from the second book in the "Outlander" series, “Dragonfly in Amber.” Brianna is the red-headed offspring of Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan).
As reported by TV Line, the official character description details Brianna as a 20-something American woman who is “strong-minded, intelligent beyond her years with an effortless charm and sparkling sense of humor (traits inherited from both her mother and father.” The character should have a “scholastic mindset, with a healthy dose of American strength, having been born and bred in Boston under the watchful eye of professor and historian Frank Randall.” And she will be relatively tall too, 5-foot-8 or over.
The casting of Brianna will call for a delicate mix of assuredness and innocence, as the actress who gets the coveted part will be expected to appear “earthy and grounded” while displaying “inexperience and vulnerability.”
She does not need to be a natural red head though, as producers will dye hair if everything else is perfect.
In the novel Brianna is introduced in 1960s-era Scotland. The casting note informs that she has “secretly followed her mother back in time to find the father she never met and the family she never knew.”
In other “Outlander”-related news, E! has just announced that Caitriona Balfe has been named their "2015 Girl on Top," beating out “Arrow” star Emily Bett Rickards by a slim but definite margin.
Balfe beat out 63 other TV heroines in the fan based competition.
The main duty that comes with the title is “continuing to be awesome while portraying one of our favorite female TV characters on one of our favorite TV shows.”
“Outlander” is currently filming their second season, which will premiere in 2016 on Starz
