2015 Hispanic Heritage Awards: Becky G to Receive Role Model Award; Ana Gabriel Also Honored
Pop star Becky G may still be a relatively new artist, but according to The Hispanic Heritage Foundation, the 18-year-old's influence is undeniable and she, along with seven others, will be honored at the upcoming 2015 Hispanic Heritage Awards.
The young singer is among a list of several members of the Latino community whose contributions to their craft have had a huge impact in society and have all been named honorees for the Oct. 9 ceremony.
Becky G will receive the Inspira Award for using her image in the public eye to be role model for youth everywhere.
Famous honorees include film director Robert Rodriguez, who will be receiving the Vision award, singer Ana Gabriel, who will receive the Legend award, musician Arturo Sandoval, who will receive the Arts award, and pitcher Pedro Martinez, who will be honored for his contribution to sports.
Other honorees include Maria Gomez, who will be honored for her work in healthcare, scientist Dr. Vladamir Alvarado will receive the STEM award and The White House Initiative will be honored for their work on educational excellence.
Legendary singer and actress, Rita Moreno, a past honoree, will be hosting the award ceremony, which will be held at the Historic Warner Theatre, reported Entertainment Weekly.
"The Hispanic Heritage Foundation is proud to partner with Target and all our sponsors to honor yet another visionary group of Latino leaders with the Hispanic Heritage Award and share our cultural pride, accomplishment and great promise with all of America," said Jose Antonio Tijerino, president and CEO.
"We are also excited about the great line up of performances led by the incomparable Rita Moreno. The evening will certainly be entertaining, meaningful and inspirational."
The ceremony will include other performances from Lila Downs, Arturo Sandoval, Ana Gabriel, Gaby Moreno, and Becky G.
Past celebrity honorees include musicians like Juanes, Olga Tañon, Alejandro Sanz, Ricky Martin, Carlos Vives, Gloria and Emilio Estefan, boxer Oscar de la Hoya and actors Rosario Dawson, Zoe Saldana, Antonio Banderas, America Ferrera and Eva Longoria.
