"Bachelor in Paradise" fans are still reeling after the shocking breakup of Carly Waddell and Kirk DeWindt on the ABC dating show's Season 2 finale. Waddell was utterly baffled when DeWindt told her that they would not be going on a fantasy suite date and dumped her.

The night before, the couple had been discussing marriage, the possibility of starting a family, and where they would live together once the show ended.

Waddell confronted DeWindt about dumping her. He apologized and asked for forgiveness. "Bachelor in Paradise" fans were unmoved by his apology -- they wanted to know how he could fall out of love overnight.

In an interview on Wednesday with former "Bachelor" star Ali Fedotowsky, Waddell revealed the real reason DeWindt dumped her in Mexico during the show: He has a girlfriend back home.

The fact DeWindt had a girlfriend back home was not discussed on "Bachelor in Paradise," but according to Waddell, he had broken up with her prior to appearing on the show. Despite his chemistry with Waddell, he couldn't get over his former girlfriend.

"It hurt hearing that, but gave me a giant sense of closure," Waddell told Fedotowsky. "And I knew that he was at least listening to his heart, and that's what we should all strive to do."

Waddell said she did not mention DeWindt's girlfriend during her appearance on "After Paradise" because she didn't think it was her place to do so. She was waiting for him to bring it up.

When asked if she forgave him, Waddell said, "Yes. I do. I loved him. That's what you do when you love someone. He will forever be in my heart."

Waddell, who is living in Nashville, said that she has gone on a couple of dates since, but she has not found the right man.
