There is a new "Bridget Jones" film coming next year and there have been a few developments in what the movie will be about, according to People.

First off, Renee Zellweger will be reprising her role as the famous title character that fans last saw her portray in "Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason." She will also be joined by another alum of the series, actor Colin Firth.

This third installment to the series will be about Jones' pregnancy and the baby's father, who has been a closely guarded secret for the project. It is unclear at this point if Firth's character is coming back to play the role of the father.

What is also known about the project is that "Grey's Anatomy" star Patrick Dempsey has been cast alongside Zellweger and Firth to co-star in the film, so there may be a scene in the film that revisits the first film -- specifically the scene where Firth and Hugh Grant fight over the love of Jones in the film.

Although the film is the third in the "Bridget Jones" series, there was another film that was titled "Mad About the Boy." That particular film was drawn from the writings of Helen Fielding, and it seems to have existed in the same universe with the same characters. But it also set itself apart from the other films and appeared to be a standalone.

The new "Bridget Jones" film is what People have characterized as a prequel, in sorts, to that film because it takes place between the events of "The Edge of Reason" and "Mad About the Boy."

Deadline reports that film is tentatively titled "Bridget Jones Baby."

The project will start production on Oct. 2 for Universal Pictures, and there has been no word yet as to when it will be released.
