‘Evil Dead’ Star Bruce Campbell Set to Host Horror Competition Show
When it comes to the king of B-horror, no other name rings louder than Bruce Campbell. The "Evil Dead" alum helped transform the genre with a melding of grotesque horror and dark comedy that fans love. According to Deadline, he is taking those unique talents to a new competition show that has horror as a theme.
From the people who brought you "King of the Nerds" on TBS, Craig Armstrong and Rick Ringbakk, now comes a new show, which is being shopped around to the major cable and broadcast networks, that will be based on a similar premise.
The basic setup of the show, which is tentatively titled "Bruce Campbell's Horrified," would follow people who are fans of the horror genre living together, presumably in a haunted house of sorts.
The show will prompt the contestants with a series of challenges, which will require them to make a certain amount of progress within one of the sub-genres of the horror medium.
There are various different tropes within the horror genre, which could include ghosts, demons, sci-fi, monsters, zombies and psychological madmen.
The show will also have several types of accompanying set decorations, lighting and sound effects associated with the theme.
Although Campbell will be the host of the show, the producers hope to bring in horror genre veterans to guest host as judges. They won't bring just any guests of course, but die-hard veterans of the genre, who really know what they're talking about.
"From where I'm sitting, this is the first time a reality series has melded competition and comedy with the fun and fear of the horror genre," Campbell told Deadline. "It's a sweet spot I love and to pull it off takes a team of creative, industrious and slightly insane people - which is, of course, why I wanted to do it!"
There has been no word yet as to when production on the series will start or when it will debut on its prospective network.
