Microsoft Surface Pro 4 Release Date & Specs: Dell Surface Clone in the Works?
It's a testament to the success of Microsoft Surface Pro that it has become the standard that all new tablets are measured against.
Various reports have dubbed both the new Lenovo Ideapad Miix 700 and iPad Pro as rivals that took inspiration from the Microsoft flagship tablet. Now, it looks like Dell is following the trend and designing its own high-end Surface-like device.
According to a report from German website Giga, information was leaked about the upcoming Dell XPS 12. The product is the company's answer to the Surface Pro, forgoing the convertible tablet-to-laptop body of Dell's previous 2-in-1 devices for a detachable keyboard dock just like Microsoft's.
The XPS 12 reportedly comes in a compact 12-inch package, the same size as the Surface Pro 3. However, Dell's product boasts a hefty resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels with its 4K UHD. The illuminated keyboard and high-precision touchpad will likely be a significant edge over the Surface Pro. Other notable features of the new tablet include Windows 10, a Dell Active stylus, an eight-megapixel rear camera, a five-megapixel front camera, a Thunderbolt 3 USB port and 10 hours of battery life.
The Dell XPS 12 is expected to be launched in October, according to a report from The Verge.
It's an impressive haul for a compact tablet, but offering a competitive device to Microsoft hasn't stopped Dell from helping introduce the company's line of tablets and Windows 10 to the market. A previous report from Latin Post revealed that Dell will be offering the Microsoft products commercially by October, along with perks such as Dell Hardware Warranty, ProSupport with Accidental Damage Service and Configuration and Deployment Services.
"Windows 10 is off to a great start, and we're ready to help make the transition to Windows 10 as easy as possible for all of our customers," Dell chairman and chief executive officer Michael Dell said in an official statement from Microsoft. "Together with Microsoft, we are giving our customers great products, including Surface, with the best sales, service and support in the world."
Even with a number of competitors gunning for Surface Pro's place in the market, Microsoft is ahead of the pack as they build their own upgrade for the well-received Surface Pro 3. According to another Latin Post report, the improved device will feature a new Skylake processor that offers faster and more powerful performance. The Surface Pro 4 will also be coming in two sizes, a 12-inch model like its predecessor and a 14-inch tablet for those who want a bigger screen for entertainment or professional purposes.
The Microsoft Surface Pro 4 is also rumored to be unveiled in October.
