GTA 5 Online PS4, Xbox One & PC Update: 'Freemode' Story DLC Won't Be Available for Older Consoles
"Grand Theft Auto" is one of the most popular games in history, and "Grand Theft Auto Online" is continuing its streak of great success. The multiplayer mode is set to unleash fresh content, particularly new Freemode Events updates. However, the latest upgrades in the online game are exclusive to users of PC and the latest consoles PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
"The Freemode Events Update is only for PC, PS4 and Xbox One," a Rockstar representative answered in the comments section of their website. "As we'd mentioned previously in our Asked & Answered series here at the Newswire... future content updates like this one would only be possible on the newer and more powerful systems."
This latest revelation is likely to disappoint players of last-generation consoles, but it's likely the Freemode Events file size is too large to open and play in old hardware, according to GameRant. It is still possible that future updates of the game will be available to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
The Freemode Events Updates is a major advancement for "GTA Online," offering new challenges and unique experience for each session.
According to the official Rockstar release, players can look forward to an assortment of events such as "King of the Castle," an all-out turf war where players would claim the castle and defend it against everyone else. In "Hunt the Beast," a volunteer would transform into a beast and run away from pursuers. Expect new Adversary Modes as well, including "Hunting Pack" and "Cross the Line."
The latest update will also include the crowd favorite Rockstar Editor, with new features like a new ambient audio and sound effects library and Snapmatic integration, among others.
Because of Rockstar's newfound focus on "GTA Online," the developer reveals that there are no plans yet for another single-player DLC.
"Right now our focus is on GTA Online which has exceeded our expectations," director of design at Rockstar North Imran Sarwar shared in an interview with IGN.
"We currently have all key members of the team that launched Grand Theft Auto V focused on supporting GTA Online in every capacity. The community we've been able to foster is massive, growing each day and we have so many ideas that have yet to make it into the game. The evolution of GTA Online on these newer platforms is also an exciting prospect as the power of those systems is going to allow us to achieve even more," he said.
Freemode Events update for "Grand Theft Auto 5 Online" will be released on Tuesday, Sept. 15.
