‘Jeepers Creepers 3’ News: Francis Ford Coppola to Produce, Original Crew Returns
"Jeepers Creepers 3" is set to begin production with Francis Ford Coppola ("The Godfather," "Bram Stoker's Dracula") behind the production wheel.
According to Deadline, the film is set to begin production behind Coppola's American Zoetrope, and the original writer-director, Victor Salva, will return along with Brandon Smith as Sergeant Tubbs from the first film. The third film will take place on the 23rd day of the Creeper's feeding cycle.
It has been 12 years since fans last saw the Creeper. In 2003's "Jeepers Creepers 2," the Creeper seemed to be defeated, and at the end, which was the 23rd day of the cycle, there was a time-jump that showed the characters 23 years later. It showed the man who "killed" the Creeper holding a harpoon gun with a post driver aimed at the sleeping Creeper, seemingly awaiting his return.
There has been no word yet if the events at the end of the second film will be overlooked, given the premise for the third film and the return of Tubbs.
The first film starred Justin Long and featured the introduction of the now famous monster known as the Creeper. His mythology started in that first film way back in 2001 and spawned a sequel before taking a hiatus.
The original film played off a mythology for the creature that essentially said "every 23 years for 23 days, he gets to eat." That basically means the creature wreaks havoc on a small town every 23 years when he comes out to kill, consume and devour its victims.
The new film will focus on the folklore of the Creeper and give it a little backstory. Some things that have yet to be explained are where it comes from, why it does what it does and most importantly, what it is.
According to the IMDb, the working title for the film will be "Jeepers Creepers: Cathedral."
