An American Airlines flight heading to Chicago made an emergency landing Monday after an unruly passenger allegedly assaulted a flight attendant.

American Airlines Flight 1284 from Miami to Chicago was diverted to Indianapolis Monday afternoon when a woman kissed and then punched a female flight attendant. Witnesses say the passenger, who has been identified as Daniela Velez-Reyes, displayed erratic behavior the whole time she was on board.

"You could hear someone screaming expletives in the back repeatedly," passenger Jim Saviano told ABC affiliate WLS-TV in Chicago.

"She was on the ground," Wilson said. "She wouldn't stand up. She kept hollering that she was going to mess herself, like she was cursing people out. It was really absurd."

Marian Frendt added that Velez-Reyes "was disoriented through the entire flight," and that "Sshe started kicking the seat of the passenger in front of her." The person "apparently turned around to complain ... and she hit him," said Frendt.

When a flight attendant intervened, Velez-Reyes allegedly grabbed the attendant's face and kissed her, then punched her in the face, said another witness, according to ABC News.

That's when fellow passengers said the pilot used the intercom to ask "large men" to restrain her.

Authorities also said Velez-Reyes kicked a police officer while being arrested. Meanwhile, other passengers filmed the ordeal as Velez-Reyes was being escorted off the plane in flex-cuffs.

The flight attendant suffered an "apparent minor injury" from the incident, which caused the flight to arrive in Chicago about 90 minutes late.

After being arrested, Velez-Reyes was taken to the Marion County Sheriff's Office Arrestee Processing Center in Indianapolis. She has been charged with with battery with injury, battery without injury, battery of a public safety officer, criminal recklessness, disorderly conduct and disruption the operation of an aircraft.
