"Your body is your past, present, and future. It carries the memory of your ancestors, because you are made up of the genes given to you by your parents and their parents before them. It is the culmination of everything you have ever eaten, all the physical activity that you did or didn't do, all the efforts that you've made to understand and take care of it. And how well you care for it will determine how well you are able to live your life." -- Cameron Diaz.

Being an actress in Hollywood can do a number on your self-esteem -- from the tabloids, the paparazzi and tough competition for acting roles. There isn't a shortage of challenges in the business, but over the years actress-turned-author Cameron Diaz has managed to stay true to herself and appreciate and nurture her body. Although it didn't happen overnight, the Golden Globe nominated actress has learned to embrace her mind and body connection and hopes to empower others to love the body they're in as well.

Diaz, whose father's family was Cuban (of Spanish decent) and her mother is of English, German and Scottish ancestry, shared the latest release of her book, "The Body Book: The Law of Hunger, the Science of Strength, and Other Ways to Love Your Amazing Body" with TODAY as a part of its "Love Your Selfie Series."

"Grounded in science and informed by real life, 'The Body Book' offers a comprehensive overview of the human body and mind, from the cellular level up. From demystifying and debunking the hype around food groups to explaining the value of vitamins and minerals, readers will discover why it's so important to embrace the instinct of hunger and to satisfy it with whole, nutrient-dense foods."

Diaz, who has starred in The Mask, My Best Friend's Wedding and There's Something About Mary, among others, also points out, while the mind and what you eat make a difference, the "essential role of movement, the importance of muscle and bone strength and why we need to sweat a little every day."

She also goes to great lengths to make it clear that The Body Book is not a diet book, or a 30-day program or regimen, but that "it offers a holistic, long-term approach to making consistent choices and reaching the ultimate goal: a long, strong, happy, healthy life."

Thus far, it seems like fans and readers are loving their "selfie" in addition to Diaz's book. One fan shared her enthusiasm via Twitter.

"So whether you wish you had longer legs or smaller hips, bigger boobs or less pointy ears, this book is for you," Diaz writes. "It's a guide to accepting what you have and loving it with everything you've got, to appreciating how incredible this physical vehicle is. It's a guide to maximizing your strength and endurance so that your body can take you everywhere you want to go in life: to all of your success, to the love of your life, to your passions and adventures. The body that you have is the body that will literally carry you there. So if you want to get to all of those wonderful destinations, you have to build the strongest, most capable, most powerful body that you can. You must learn to live well in your uniquely beautiful body."
