More bombastic titles certainly come to mind when talking about first-person shooting games. One might immediately think of the "Call of Duty" games or the "Battlefield" series.

Amid all the successful franchises that have contributed to the gaming genre, none has equaled the "Counter-Strike" series in both importance and scope.

During its heyday in the mid-2000s, a combined 140,000 active gamers were playing "Counter-Strike 1.6" and "Counter-Strike: Source" at any given moment, Online Gaming Zeitgeist previously listed via SK-Gaming.

To put that into perspective, "Battlefield 2" came in second on the 2007 list. It averaged 20,000 active players at random times.

Meanwhile, there was an eight-year hiatus between "Counter-Strike: Source" and its subsequent sequel "'Counter-Strike: Global Offensive." Other gaming studios have since developed far more superior games to preoccupy "Counter-Strike" fans.

Luckily for Valve, "'Counter-Strike: Global Offensive" has quickly built up steam.

According to the latest Steam stats, the current generation CS game is only second to "Dota 2" in Steam player count. However, both are constantly outpacing each other as the most played game on the said platform.

To improve the game as well as reward its devoted followers, Valve recently announced a new patch for "'Counter-Strike: Global Offensive." The Washington-based gaming studio broke the news on the game's official blog site.

The update carries improvements for character and object movement in the game. It has new animations for visible weapon displays, ladder climbing and bomb defusing.

What fans can quickly notice upon applying the new patch is the smoother and more realistic gestures of characters. The update carries an upgraded hitbox skeleton for both Terrorists and Counter-Terrorists.

A Reddit user shared a screenshot to show the before and after hitboxes.

"This is the day we change from hitbox to hitcylinder," commented another Reddit user.

The patch will also employ a more dynamic player culling system. To the uninitiated, this means players or edges of weapons will no longer poke through thin walls. The new player culling system is a much-needed fix to the "Counter-Strike" series since a lot of gamers will agree that the glitch gives away players' positions during a match.

In the weapons department, the patch will add a new physics motion to the holstered weapon attachments. Furthermore, animations for weapon aim and action poses have been revamped while defuser cables have been added.

The M4A1 carbine won't be so overpowered anymore since it will have slightly reduced armor penetration. The Zeus x27 will now cost $100 while the Dual Berettas will have increased armor penetration and range modifier.

Best of all, gamers can now notify superior opponents for "anti-competitive grieving." Click here to view the complete patch notes.
