Actress Maite Perroni is ready to show fans that she can play the role of the least popular girl and still make you root for her when she stars in "Antes Muerta Que Lichita." The star hopes that viewers will be able to relate to the telenovela's positive message.

"I think that is a very special message because in the story we will see this process the character takes that has been through difficult moments and is constantly seen vulnerable," the actress told Latin Times.

In the new telenovela, Perroni stars as a young woman who struggles to be taken seriously by her coworkers and decides to do anything possible to prove she is just as good as they are.

"She [Lichita] is exposed to criticism and comments from everyone," she said.

"As time goes on she has the necessity of seeking vengeance and rise up to demonstrate that she is just as capable as everybody else, but she will go to the extreme. An extreme that is not positive, that will make her forget about her values, principles and her family."

Perroni, known for her roles in various other telenovelas like "Cuidado Con El Angel" and "Triunfo Del Amor," rose to fame as one of six members of the internationally popular pop group RBD, who originated in the telenovela "Rebelde."

The actress hopes that getting to know Lichita will inspire others to be positive even when they are in bad situations.

"The message of the story is very positive, that is what I am referring to," Perroni said.

"Reaching your goals doesn't mean that you have to step over people. Reaching your goals means that you are secure, firm, dedicated, committed and pour your heart out with positive energy to accomplish them without affecting someone else."

Besides the telenovela, the 32-year-old Mexican star is also currently working on her second album, which she hopes to release in 2016, reported People En Español.

"Antes Muerta Que Lichita," which also stars Arath de la Torre, Eduardo Santamarina, Sherlyn González and Chantal Andere, is set to premiere in the U.S. on Sept. 22 on Univision.
