Three young Americans, two of them currently in the military, were awarded with medals for their bravery in thwarting a terror attack in France last month.

The three friends attended a ceremony on Thursday at the Pentagon and also met President Barack Obama.

Defense Secretary Ash Carter, along with top military brass, have officially saluted the three young heroes, all aged 23. A release from the Defense Department informs that at Thursday’s award ceremony Airman 1st Class Spencer Stone received the Airman's Medal and Purple Heart medal; Specialist Alek Skarlatos received the Soldier's Medal; and Anthony Sadler would receive the Department of Defense Medal for Valor.

Speaking about how the young men thwarted a gunman on Aug. 21, Carter called it amazing. "Right out of a movie," said the Defense Secretary, according to USA Today.

The trio, childhood friends who were vacationing together in Europe, managed to subdue a Moroccan man named Ayoub El-Khazzani aboard a French train when he opened fired on civilians. With the help of 62-year old British man named Chris Norman they captured the would be terrorist.

President Obama, via an Office of the Press Secretary release, shared some congratulatory words about the heroes, saying they stopped “a potential catastrophic situation.”

“Because of their courage, because of their quick thinking, because of their teamwork, it’s fair to say that a lot of people were saved and a real calamity was averted,” said the President, who went on to offer his confidence in their futures, saying, "Whatever they do, they’re going to do it well" before thanking them for their actions and for making America “look so good.”

As reported in CNN, Skarlatos, who is now on this season’s “Dancing With The Stars,” was the first to respond to the sound of gunfire and breaking glass and sensed something was not right.

Once the suspect appeared with a gun, he yelled "get him" and mobilized the others. "The guy had a lot of ammo," said Skarlatos, "His intentions were pretty clear."
