Stephen King’s ‘The Mist’ Being Adapted for TV Series [Watch]
Several movies and books have been making their mark on TV lately, and now, Stephen King's "The Mist" is about to become the latest incarnation.
According to Deadline, Dimension Television is currently in development for a TV series about the novella that was later made into a hit film by Frank Darabont ("The Walking Dead," "The Green Mile") in 2007.
Although transcribing hit films into TV series has been an emerging trend here lately, this project will be a double dose of popular fiction. The fact that it was originally a novella by the master of horror, King, as well as a film by the incredible director Darabont means that Dimension will have their work cut for them. Avid fans will have high expectations for the series, which is being written by Christian Torpe.
The basic story is about a strange mist that unfolds on a coastal New England town that brings more than just water. It hides an unspeakable horror that unfolds on everything that it comes in contact with.
The town itself takes refuge from the mist and, in their hiding, their own personal demons start to rear their ugly heads. Religion, paranoia, hopelessness and egos will clash with the human characters in the story and bring about tragic circumstances for many of the old and young.
The 2007 film ended is such a way that left viewers mostly devastated in regards to the tragic and horrible circumstances that befell the main characters at its conclusion.
Dimension co-chairman Bob Weinstein seemed very eager to put the story into development.
"The terror and drama in Stephen King's novella are so vast that we felt serialized television is the best place to explore them in greater depth," Weinstein said. "With this show, Christian [Torpe] has created a fascinating band of characters and a story with infinite scares."
