Ellie Goulding's 'On My Mind' Lyrics About Ed Sheeran? 'Love Me Like You Do' Singer Speaks Up
Ellie Goulding has spoken up against speculations that a track from her new album "Delirium" is about Ed Sheeran. "On My Mind" is rumored to be about her relationship with Ed, who also previously penned a song about her.
In an interview with MTV, Ellie slammed rumors that the rather telling and emotional lyrics of "On My Mind" speaks of her former romance with the "Thinking Out Loud" singer. The lyrics in question are as follows, "Next thing that I know, I'm in a hotel with you/ You were talking deep like it was mad love to you/ You wanted my heart, but I just liked your tattoos."
The words "tattoo" and "hotel" may have attracted speculations. Afterall, Ed has a lot of tattoos on his body. Furthermore, in Ed's song "Don't" he also talked about being in a hotel with Ellie.
The lyrics are believed to be a response to Ed's song about her in "Don't," wherein the 24-year-old sang about being cheated by Ellie with another guy staying in the same hotel floor. At that time, it was rumored that the other guy was One Direction singer Niall Horan. However, despite what it could mean to other people, Ellie told MTV that it's not a response to Ed's song.
"I'm sorry to all the people that want it to be about someone - it's not, it's like a myth," she said.
Then she explained about the tattoo word on her lyrics and said that she likes guys with tattoos.
"My boyfriend has tattoos... but I don't mind. People can read into it however they want. It's fun to do that, I would do that too," she told MTV, referencing to her current boyfriend Dougie Poynter.
As for Ed, he once revealed the story behind "Don't" during a guest appearance on The Howard Stern Show (via Pop Crush) last year in September.
At first, the singer declined to reveal if he was referring to Niall as the other guy in his song, telling Stern his feelings about the situation instead. Ed said he was more like "pissed off" since he "thought it was a bit disrespectful." But he reportedly got over the feeling soon after he finished making the song.
He revealed that he had a difficult conversation with the other person afterwards, since he considered him as his "mate."
"So I was just a bit like, 'um not cool,'" Ed told Stern during his interview.
