Streamy 2015: Tyler Oakley, Grace Helbig Hosted; Best Moments, Winners and Performances
On Sept. 17, the biggest stars in the digital world of entertainment gathered with some familiar celebrity faces to celebrate the best of YouTube, Vine and Snapchat for the annual Streamy Awards.
The award ceremony, which was hosted by Tyler Oakley and Grace Helbig, streamed live online, but was also aired on VH1 on Thursday night. The show included performances by Great Big World, Future, OMI, Alessia Cara, actress-turned-singer Hailee Steinfeld and Sir Mix-a-Lot, who closed the show.
Celebrity guests included Paula Abdul, Frankie Grande, James Van Der Beek, Natasha Bedingfield, Mel B, Ciara, JoJo, Kat Graham, Shay Mitchell and Sean Kingston.
The awards were divided into eight main categories: Audience Choice; Awards for Channels, Series or Shows; Subject Awards; Performance Awards; Music Awards; Craft Awards; Social Video Awards; and Campaign Awards, reported Vanity Fair.
The biggest award of the night, Entertainer of the Year, went to Cameron Dallas. Others nominated for the award included some of the biggest digital stars like Helbig and Oakley, Lilly Singh, Miranda Sings, Jenna Marbles, Connor Franta, Jack & Jack, Kandee Johnson and King Bach.
Show of the Year went to fouseyTUBE, who pulled a Kanye West and announced that he's running for president in 2020. Gigi Gorgeous, who was recently one of the faces to be featured in Miley Cyrus' #InstaPride campaign, won the beauty award. Lauren Elizabeth won for Fashion, Epic Meal Time took home the award for best in Food, and PewDiePie took home the Gaming award.
Even though she lost Entertainer of the Year to Dallas, Singh, aka IISuperwomanII, took home the award for First Person and gave a humorous but touching speech, reported People.
"I have to thank my parents, who let me not be a doctor," she said. "And huge shout-outs to Google and YouTube for not being scared to put a brown girl on a billboard."
Other big winners included Shawn Mendes, who took home the Breakout Artist award, and Alessia Cara, who won the best Original Song for "Here," which she later took the stage to perform.
The Streamys not only honored the faces of the digital world, but the ones behind the magic as well. Awards were handed out for writing, editing, cinematography, costume design, visual and special effects, and directing.
