For the first time, food company Frito-Lay is allowing Doritos lovers to taste the rainbow -- literally!

On Thursday, Doritos announced a new limited edition version of its Cool Ranch-flavored tortilla chip, called Doritos Rainbows, in support of gay and lesbian teenagers.

Each special edition bag is filled with chips of all colors represented in the Gay Pride flag. It is the "first Doritos product in history made up of multiple, rainbow-colored Doritos chips inspired by the Pride flag," according to a statement from the corn chip makers.

"Doritos Rainbows chips are a first-of-its-kind product supporting the LGBT community. Doritos the brand has stood 'for the bold,' and we believe there is nothing bolder than being yourself," stated Ram Krishnan, Frito-Lay chief marketing officer, in the press release.

Unfortunately, consumers won't be able to buy these chips in stores. Instead, the only way to try the new chips is by donating at least $10 to the It Gets Better Project, an organization that helps lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth who have been bullied.

The snack food company is also asking donors and supporters to share photos and videos, both through a special website and on social media, using the hashtag #bolderandbetter.

Although many people have been applauding Doritos for partnering with the It Gets Better Project, which was founded by gay rights activist Dan Savage, others have criticized the effort.

For example, @ConservativeLeo suggested that people boycott the corn chip company, tweeting: "@Doritos so disappointed that you would choose a group associated with Savage. Nasty, disgusting man filled with hate. #boycottdoritos"

Likewise, @justinbmitchell bashed the rainbow inspired Doritos, tweeting: "Sick! Doritos Aligns with Anti-Christian Bully Dan Savage," along with a link to a news article about the snack on conservative news outlet Breitbart.
